Dermaplaning is a skin treatment that painlessly removes the top layers of dry, dead skin cells. Dermaplaning is safe for most people, with little risk of side effects when performed by a certified professional. Benefits of a dermaplaning facial include:

  • Manual Exfoliation of dead skin cells, leaving skin super smooth
  • Deeper Product penetration
  • Pain Free
  • Removes “peach fuzz” vellus hair that can trap oils and dirt
  • Skin that is softer and smoother
  • Acne scars are reduced
  • Fine lines and wrinkles are reduced
  • Increases skin circulation
  • Works on all skin types
  • Does not make hair grow back thicker or darker
  • An alternative to microdermabrasion

Enzyme Peels are the lightest and least invasive of facial peels. They use naturally occurring proteins from fruits to dissolve dead skin cells and so suitable for those with sensitive skin. An enzyme peel can help to fade discolouration, clear pores, reduce fine lines and wrinkles, reduce a dull complexion, improve texture, prevent acne, and improve product absorption.

LED light therapy benefits include treating acne, regulating oil production, stimulating collagen and elastin, and minimising redness and wrinkles. It is a non invasive treatment and can be used on almost everybody.

What is a Dermaplaning Facial?

Dermaplaning facials are a safe and effective way to physically exfoliate the skins surface. A sterile surgical scalpel, and a special technique are used to gently “surf” or “shave” the skins surface. This removes the layer of dead skin cells at the upmost of the skins surface, and the peachy fuzz (vellus hair) which can collect dirt and oils. Vellus, soft hair unlike hair on the rest of our bodies (terminal hair) will not grow back thicker or darker.

Dermaplaning facials can be repeated as frequently as every few weeks, in your lunch hour as there is no downtime.

At Ciao Bella, I offer a basic dermaplane facial which includes a deep cleanse, dermaplane, soothing oils and application of sunscreen. You can upgrade and add on an enzyme peel to mop up any last traces of dead cells and debris, a face mask (rejuvenating, purifying or revitalising) or LED light therapy to further boost your skin.  LED mask (light therapy) is reportedly loved by celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and Jessica Alba. LED Light therapy has a number of benefits which include combating the signs of ageing, nourishing the dermal and deeper lying epidermal cells and speeding up the turnover of skin cells.

I also offer a simple enzyme peel facial which comprises of a double cleanse, enzyme peel and application of soothing oils and sunscreen.

Who are Dermaplaning facials for?

Dermaplaning is for almost everyone, although those with rougher, dryer skin or those with mature skin may benefit the most. Pregnant or breastfeeding clients can also have the treatment, when other chemical exfoliating treatments may not be suitable. It is not suitable for those with active acne. Those that are taking blood thinning medication, or those with insulin dependent diabetes are not suitable for Dermaplaning.

Will Dermaplaning make my hair grow back darker or thicker?

No. This is actually physiologically impossible. The hair growing on our bodies is different types. Vellus hair “peach fuzz”, grows back the same size and shape after being Dermaplaned, the main structure of vellus hair does not change and is not altered by Dermaplaning.

Can I do this at home?

No. Dermaplaning should only be carried out by qualified professionals. The technique required is specific to ensure that the results are good and there is minimal risk to the skin. Dermaplaning tools are surgical steel scalpels, which are much sharper than most razors.

Dermaplaning – After Care Advice

Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation of the skin. Your skin will be left smooth and hair free. Because the upper layers of dead skin have been sloughed away, your skin can be more sensitive to light. Your skin will have been treated with an SPF cream prior to you leaving the clinic.

Please observe the following aftercare:

  • Use an SPF in your skin care, every day
  • Do not combine your treatment with any other facials during your sessions
  • Avoid using exfoliants for 7 days after your treatment
  • Avoid sun beds and strong direct sunlight for 7 days after your treatment
